Accepting the Mission

In the center of a distant galaxy, there lies a planet where all life forms are incarnations of light. They possess great supernatural powers, capable of manifesting a thousand hands and a thousand eyes through the power of thought, much like the Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara in Buddhism.

A King ruled over the entire planet, known as the King of Many Treasures and Fulfillment. He had a daughter named Dabei.

One day, the King summoned Dabei to the throne hall and said, “Daughter, in six days, it will be my millionth birthday. I wish to pass the throne to you on that day.”

Dabei listened, her face showing distress, hesitating to answer. The King asked in surprise: “Dabei, is something troubling you?”

Dabei knelt before her father and said: “Father, I am happy to honor your decision, but something else weighs on me. The rescue team you sent to Planet A ten days ago has been sending frequent messages. The environment there is no longer habitable for them, and they wish to return, but none of them remember the way home. I ask you to send a guide to lead them back.”

The King fell into deep thought and said, “I did not expect the toxic gases of Planet A to become so potent. Child, even the capable commanders Duoli and Duozhi, sent with the last rescue team, could not resist the toxic fog and lost their way. Whom else can I send to guide them?”

“Father, I visited that planet two hundred years ago and still know the star path. I am willing to guide them back before I ascend the throne to succeed you.”

The King shook his head: “Daughter, the environment there is no longer what it was two hundred years ago. I have been observing it lately. You would only have six days. Upon entering through the Gate of Desire, you would be unconscious for three days, meaning you would only have three days to find the rescue team. That planet is full of illusions, and once there, you will lose your light-body and your supernatural powers.”

Dabei implored: “Father, if I do not go to their rescue, they may be lost for a long time before they can return to our land. I believe in my ability; three days is enough.”

The King pondered for a moment: “Very well, Dabei. I hope you return quickly after six days, whether you find them or not. I shall grant you several treasures to aid your journey.”

The King reached into the air and produced a radiant, shimmering pearl. “Child, this is our national treasure, the Mani Jewel. I will place it in your heart. Even if a hundred poisons invade you, you will not lose your wisdom and will always recognize the way home.”

The King reached out again, and a small mirror that could absorb all light in the universe appeared in his hand, its surface as dark and mysterious as a black hole.

“This is the Divine Mirror of Heaven. Child, you can place it at the back of your head. This way, no matter what form those rescue members have taken, you will be able to recognize them. I also give you a Detoxification Pill; if the poison becomes too deep, taking a small amount can temporarily ease your pain.”

Dabei received the treasures, thanked her father, and left the palace to go directly to the “Universal Observation Room” to check the archives of Planet A.

In the Universal Observation Room, there was a massive screen. Dabei turned it on and searched carefully until Planet A appeared.

A voice explained: “Planet A, also known as the Illusory City of the Universe, is composed of two energy clusters: Yang energy and Yin energy. Within Yang energy exists Yin, and within Yin exists Yang, and they transform into one another. Thus, the formation of life here is complex; they are divided into men and women, and their nature is a mix of good and evil. Within good there is evil, and within evil there is good. Their consciousness wavers with the illusions, and their bodies endure both joy and pain.”

“This planet is filled with five great poisons: Greed, Anger, Ignorance, Arrogance, and Doubt. These five poisons create various illusory realms, enticing the life forms to lose themselves within them, unable to break free.”

“These toxins have invaded every cell and the very marrow of the beings on this planet. Almost every member of our rescue team has succumbed, becoming addicted to these toxins. These poisons have corroded the recognition devices in their hearts, leaving them unable to find their way home.”

As the explanation reached this point, a red light at the bottom of the screen flashed incessantly. The narrator immediately issued a warning: “A life form is calling for help; it is one of our rescue members.”

Dabei turned off the alarm. The narrator continued: “Beings here have different lifespans according to the depth of their poisoning. When their life in one form ends, they transform into another form due to their attachment to the illusions created by the five poisons.”

“They cycle through reincarnation endlessly, their poisoning growing deeper and their pains and troubles increasing. If this continues, these beings will become paralyzed by the toxic power, losing the ability to know true pain or true joy, or to distinguish between true good and true evil. Many lives have now lost even the most basic power of discernment, and this situation is constantly worsening and spreading…”

As the narration continued, images appeared on the screen showing the suffering of the beings on this planet when their toxic addiction flared up. Dabei wept. She spoke into the intercom: “Please explain the method of rescue and indicate the location of our personnel on this planet.”

“The method of rescue is as follows: Our rescue is mainly directed toward a life form called ‘Human.’ Within this life form’s body is a device called ‘Ego-attachment’ (Wo Zhi). This device is exceptionally hard and difficult to break, but two substances can melt it: one is ‘Merit Water,’ and the other is ‘Universal Love.’

Once this ‘Ego-attachment’ is dissolved, the beings of this planet will no longer suffer even if they are deeply poisoned, and they will immediately be liberated from all illusions, transforming into Beings of Light just like those of our planet.”

“Where can these two things be found?” Dabei asked.

The narrator replied, “Both substances are produced on this planet. If a person here gives rise to a single good thought or performs a single good deed, a drop of ‘Merit Water’ will form in the air. There is a Divine Being with Ten Thousand Hands and Ten Thousand Eyes on this planet; he stores this generated Merit Water in a sacred vessel. When the vessel is full, it generates a divine light called ‘Universal Love,’ which is sprinkled along with the ‘Merit Water’ onto the bodies of the beings. If someone receives this light and water, their ‘Ego-attachment’ will dissolve instantly, liberating them from all afflictions and transforming them into a light-body. The rescue personnel will then bring these light-bodies back to our Land of Many Treasures.”

“Where can the Divine Being with Ten Thousand Hands and Ten Thousand Eyes be found?” Dabei asked.

“He is not easy to find. He lives on the summit of ‘Self-Nature Mountain’ (Zixing Shan) in the east of the planet. There is no path up the mountain, and it is shrouded in mist year-round. Only when the vessel is full of Merit Water will he manifest within the light of ‘Universal Love’.”

“Can our life sensors find the positions of Duoli and Duozhi?” Dabei asked. Countless search signals appeared on the screen. Suddenly, in a corner of the planet, a red signal lit up.

“Found them!” the narrator’s voice rang out again. “Besides the five realms caused by the five poisons, there are two other illusory realms: one is the ‘Demon Illusion’ (Mo Huan Jing) at the foot of Self-Nature Mountain, and the other is the ‘Illusory Realm of Buddhas’ (Fo Huan Jing) within the mountain. Duozhi is lost in the Illusory Realm of Buddhas, and Duoli is in the Demon Illusion… They must have been searching for the Divine Being when they became trapped,” Dabei thought.

“Fine, tell me the entrance to this planet.”

“At the Mouth of Desire, the center where the Yin and Yang poles intersect.”

“Can I return the same way later?”

“No, the exit is at the summit of Self-Nature Mountain.”

“I need to be equipped with a life sensor.”

After a moment, an attendant brought a small green box. Dabei placed it at her heart, and instantly, a bolt of lightning shot toward Planet A.
